Reiki session with Becky MortonLantero

What is Reiki?

A simple yet powerful Japanese technique using the ‘laying on of hands’ to encourage relaxation and healing. Reiki works to enhance the flow of the body’s natural ‘life force energy’ (or in Japanese ‘Ki’) which helps the body to be healthy and happy.

Reiki =
Rei – meaning ‘universal life force’
Ki – meaning ‘energy’ or divine essence of everything in the universe; earth, planets, stars heavens.

Rei-Ki

Our western world view doesn’t openly acknowledge that these ‘energies’ exist within the body, however in the Eastern medicine it is much more common to work with the body’s energy centres such as Chakras and energy lines (used in Acupuncture) for healing. For those of you reading this who are struggling to understand the idea of Reiki, the only thing I can suggest is to try it and see for yourself!

What does a Reiki session involve?

A Reiki session usually lasts between 30-45 minutes and the person or animal can just relax, sit or lie down as they see fit during a session. Hands are layed on various parts of the body for a period of time. I work with the ‘feel of the energy field’ and feedback I get through my hands (usually a mild tingling sensation) as I work to release energy blocks in the body. I also work off the physical body in energy field (up to a foot above the body) to release any blocks before they manifest in the physical.

People report different sensations during Reiki from heat, tingling, pain, relaxation and sometimes sleep! Animals often relax during a Reiki session by lowering their heads, deep breathing and dozing off, sometimes they will also look or point to areas on the body that need attention. At no point will I force the body to accept anything, I prefer it if animals have the option to move away from me at any time if they’ve had enough.

As with other complimentary medicine a Reiki session can sometimes induce a ‘healing crisis’ this is the body’s way of shifting out all the junk it no longer needs and de-toxing. Sometimes this can result in physical symptoms like achy muscles, runny nose or a headache – ‘great healing then!’ I hear you cry. But often when we discard what we no longer need we make room for the new and healing picks up a pace after the ‘cleansing’ phase passes.

I am more than happy to discuss any issues you may have with people or animals and to see how Reiki may be able to help you.
